Tennis: Stephens County edges Chestatee on singles points

Stephens County edged Chestatee in an 8A-AAAA subregion boys tennis match at Chestatee by sweeping the singles matches on Thursday night.

The War Eagles dominated at doubles with Blaine Brown and Juan Carrion winning the No. 1 match over Stephens County's Faite Chatham and Zachary Caudell 6-0, 6-0 and Chestatee's Reed Johnson and Austin Passmore beating Hayden Black and Seth Ramey 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 match.

But Stephens County countered with three tight wins in singles. Austin Simmons defeated Jonathan Cook 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 and Brett Williams took out Teddy Werner 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 at No. 3.

With the other matches complete it all came down to a third set tiebreak in the No. 2 singles match. Stephens County's Steven Whitworth edged out Chestatee's Jeremiah Reed 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) for the team win.
