NGCF adds new board members

GAINESVILLE - The North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) announces the addition of eight new members to its Board of Directors for 2013.

They began serving in January and each will serve a three-year term.

"Our new directors bring a deep commitment to serving the community," North Georgia Community Foundation President Jim Mathis said. "Their various backgrounds are strong additions to our board."

New board members are Jeff Ash, Helen; Chip Frierson, Gainesville; Haines Hill, Gainesville and Dahlonega; Ronald K. Hopkins Sr., Jefferson; Mary Helen McGruder, Cumming; Virgilio Perez Pascoe, Cumming; Lydia C. Starke, Gainesville; and Loveanne Addison, Clermont.

Ash worked in banking for more than 20 years and has been in the tourism business for the past 15 years. He has serves on the City Council of Helen, and the Development Authority of White County and the White County Chamber of Commerce.

Frierson, who has been a banker for 27 years, works at the National Bank of Georgia. He has been involved with United Way of Hall County, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County, the Gainesville Hall Chamber Of Commerce and Gainesville High School. He was honored by the Gainesville Jaycees as Young Man of the Year for 2002-2003.

Hill retired with the rank of Colonel from the US Army in 2004. He then joined the University of North Georgia as assistant to the President and Human Resources Director. He also served four terms as Mayor of Dahlonega. He manages a small apple growers association in Washington State and been involved with boards and organization on a regional and state level.

Hopkins is managing partner of Davidson Hopkins and Alexander law firm. He is a member of the Jefferson Rotary Club, Jefferson City School Board, Director of Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. Hopkins is a Past President and current President-Elect of Georgia School Boards Association, and serves on the Design and Planning Team for Georgia's Vision for Public Education.

McGruder is Chairman of the Forsyth County Library Board of Trustees, serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Cumming/Forsyth Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Forsyth Advisory Board and Chairman of the Staff Parish Committee at Cumming First United Methodist Church. She is also Vice Chairman of the North Georgia College & State University Foundation Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Sawnee Mountain Foundation.

Pascoe is retired after 40 years in the food and beverage industry including the position of COO with Coors Brewing Co. and PepsiCo. He has served as President of the Board of Forsyth County Community Connection. Pasco is presently Chair of Mentor Me North Georgia, Inc., and serves on the boards of Leadership Forsyth, and Forsyth County CASA.

Starke currently is a member of the Gainesville State College Foundation Board and as a board member for the Hall-Dawson CASA Program. She has served as president of a youth program serving 1,200 children and as a board member and officer of the CASA program in Twin Falls, Idaho. Starke has been involved with the American Red Cross.

Addison is a member of the Board of Directors for the Gateway Domestic Violence Center, and involved with fundraising events for Lakeview Academy and Challenged Child & Friends.
