LAWRENCEVILLE - The Georgia State Patrol is getting ready to set up shop in Gwinnett County.

According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, the Gwinnett County Commission Tuesday night voted to spend $30,000 annually to lease space for a facility to house state troopers.

The 2,530-square-foot facility is located on Pleasant Hill Road in a building that once housed the Edwin Watts Golf Pro Shop.

Gwinnett Commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash told the newspaper the expense is worth it, especially since the state will be paying the personnel costs for the 30 officers who will use the building.

GSP had previously announced plans to increase patrol presence along all 33 miles of Interstate 85. The idea is to clear accidents more quickly, thus improving traffic flow.

The officers are expected to begin the patrols in April, according to the newspaper report.
