ATHENS - An Athens man accused of dealing drugs has been convicted of murder in the stabbing death of a man prosecutors say was killed for snatching prescription pills.

On Friday a jury convicted 30-year-old James Maurice Hood in the 2011 slaying of Christopher Coon. The trial in Clarke County Superior Court lasted a week.

Police say Hood and his wife were selling the prescription painkiller oxycodone from their home when 26-year-old Coon was killed.

They claimed Coon argued with them over the price of the pills when he snatched some and tried to leave.

Prosecutors say Hood and his wife, Briana, stabbed Coon at least five times.

Briana Hood is also charged with murder and has yet to stand trial.

James Hood will be sentenced later.
