Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators were led to 51 year old David Lamar Beck through a vehicle he bought in January, according to Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks. Beck allegedly bought the vehicle with a counterfeit check.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for Beck's Sardis Road residence and found copies of fraudulent Georgia and North Carolina driver's licenses, stolen checks and mail items, as well as a laptop computer related to a burglary in White County, according to the sheriff's office.
In Hall County alone, Beck allegedly victimized 16 individuals and three businesses.
While the search warrant was served January 16, Wilbanks said Beck was being held on similar counts in Forsyth County. He's since been booked into the Hall County Jail on charges of forgery in the first, second and third degrees, ID theft/fraud, theft by taking and theft by receiving. He faces multiple counts and the ID theft/fraud and theft by receiving charges.
"Those charges are all in Hall County. He also has charges in White and Forsyth counties, so he has a lot of legal proceedings ahead of him," Wilbanks said.
He was being held in Hall County on $161,000 bond.
