GAINESVILLE -- The Chestatee girls soccer team dug out of an early hole en route to a 5-2 win over Lakeview Academy on Monday in Gainesville.

After dominating early, the Lady War Eagles (4-1) fell behind on an own-goal with just 39 seconds remaining in the first half.

Yet Chestatee (4-1) stormed back after the interval, notching three unanswered goals. Taylor Buffington scored the first six minutes into the half after being set up by Sadie Foote. Two minutes later, Hope Baxter set up Foote for a 2-1 lead. At the 24:17 mark, Baxter broke through the defense to extend the lead 3-1.

Lakeview's Amber Trip struck back, scoring on a direct free kick from 25 yards out to tighten the game at 3-2 with 16 minutes remaining. But the revival proved short-lived.

Chestatee's Zoe Smith responded with a goal one minute later, knocking home a rebound shot from Foote. Nikki Bellue then added a security strike for Chestatee.

Mary Ashley Easterwood and Bellue helped change the momentum in the second half thanks to their hard work in midfield.

The Lady War Eagles host Monroe Area on Friday in the team's first Region 8-AAAA showdown of the season.
