Rainfall continues to push lake up

GAINESVILLE - Conditions continue to improve for Lake Lanier with the ongoing heavy showers the Gainesville region has been experiencing.

Several counties in north Georgia were under a flood watch over the last several days. While that watch expired Saturday morning, the impacts of the weather system were evident.

Gainesville recorded a combined two inches of rainfall from Thursday to Saturday. The highest amount came Friday at about 1.44 inches.

As far as Laker Lanier, the level has climbed about 2.5 feet since the first of the month. It's currently just over five feet below full pool.

As of 9:30 a.m., Lake Lanier set at 1065.77. Full pool is 1071.
