FLOWERY BRANCH - A truck terminal owner seeking annexation into Flowery Branch got a warm welcome from City Council but a complaint from a nearby resident at Thursday night's council meeting.

Brian Hollis needs more sewer and wants to move into Flowery Branch to get it at Hollis Transport on Cantrell Road; he's expanding to include a food grade warehouse on his 26 acre property. His request got Council's first reading approval, but Dawn Holten, who lives across the road, wants Council to delay their final yes vote.

"We are on this road and there are tractor trailers running up and down that road at all hours of the night," Holten said.

Hollis said he does not operate at night and his $3.5-million investment in the terminal would benefit Flowery Branch.

"We took a facility that had been sitting there with a leaky roof and was dilapidated and invested $3.5-million dollars," Hollis said. "That gate is locked at eight o'clock by my driver, there's no 24 hour operation."

Mayor Mike Miller told Holten she could contact council members before they take the final vote on Hollis' annexation and rezoning request next week.

2012 AUDIT

Mayor Miller pointed to FY 2012's city audit presented at Thursday's meeting and said it reflected good management and a sign that the economy is finally turning around.

Overall, revenues were up and expenses were down, except for water and sewer, where there was a slight revenue loss.

"Our operating expenses remained the same," the Mayor said. "The usage went down, it could be conservation and the bottom line dropped a little bit."

Miller added that water use so far this year was returning to normal.
