COLLEGE PARK -- For three quarters on Wednesday the Dawson County boys basketball team looked set to pick up right where it left off in last year's state tournament -- in the end, however, the numbers proved too much for the Tigers.

With just five players featuring, Dawson County couldn't keep up with Woodward Academy down the stretch as the War Eagles pulled away for a 51-39 victory in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

"We just hit the wall and ran out of gas," Tigers coach Thad Burgess said. "We played well until the end, but with just five bodies that's just a lot to ask in Class AAA."

Dawson County (21-8) trailed just 24-23 at halftime and 34-31 after three quarters but managed just eight points over the final eight minutes.

Tyler Dominy put up a game-high 19 points in his final contest for the Tigers, while Will Anglin added 16 in his last varsity competition.

"The senior class we have has done a lot for our program and our school," Burgess said. "I'm so proud of them."

Woodward Academy (24-5) was led by 13 points from Christian Harrison and 12 from Corey Hicks.

Dawson County's season is now complete.
