After days of waiting, two area Class A basketball programs discovered on Wednesday just where they fit into the GHSA's new postseason puzzle for the state's smallest classification.

The Lakeview boys will begin play in the Class A private bracket on Saturday against Aquinas, while the Towns County girls will play host to Calhoun County in the Class A public playoffs.

The Lions (18-7) were slotted into the 14th position after in that spot in the Class A power ratings -- a formula that determines the 16 slots for the public and private state tournament. Lakeview coach Seth Vining will enter the postseason knowing it will be his last after announcing his retirement earlier this season. Vining has won over 700 career games and four state titles (two each with the East Hall boys and girls programs) and has led the Lions to the state playoffs in seven of his eight seasons with the school.

Aquinas knocked the Lions out of last year's Class playoffs in a 70-60 first round outcome.

The Towns County girls (24-4) enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Class A power ratings. The Lady Indians claimed the Region 8-A title with a win over George Walton Academy, their eighth straight win.
