ATHENS - Athens-Clarke County police say an arrest could come as early as today in a hit-and-run accident that critically injured a 19-year-old woman in Athens on Sunday.

The Athens-Banner Herald reports that the suspect is a 22-year-old Cartersville man. His name has not been released pending the serving of warrants in the case. Police tell the newspaper they have obtained evidence from the homes of the suspect's parents in Watkinsville and Lawrenceville.

Investigators say it is likely the suspect was driving drunk, since they found a liquor bottle, empty beer cans and other evidence in the vehicle.

The victim, Emily Bowman of Kennesaw, remains in a coma at an Athens hospital.
