DAWSONVILLE -- The Dawson County girls are making the most of their first trip to the playoffs in 11 years.

The Lady Tigers started strong and then cruised to a 68-54 win over Blessed Trinity Tuesday in the first round of the Class AAA tournament.

Dawson County used a solid defensive effort to spark a 16-9 first quarter to grab the lead and then held Blessed Trinity to just five points in the second quarter to build a 28-14 halftime lead.

The Lady Tigers (24-5) cruised in the second half.

"We were able to press early in the game and built a big halftime lead," Dawson County coach Steve Sweat said. "The girls were very excited to win."

Sheyenne Seabolt paced Dawson County with 18 points. Carly Gilreath added 17 points as 10 different Lady Tigers scored.

Dawson County next will take on North Oconee, which routed Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe 59-28 in the first round, in the Sweet 16 on Friday in Bogart. The Lady Titans are the Region 6-AAA champions.
