Gainesville fire destroys home with four apartments

GAINESVILLE - Four families have been displaced after a Sunday afternoon fire in Gainesville.

According to Gainesville Interim Fire Chief Jerome Yarborough, the call came in to 911 a bit after 5pm to 989 Lanier Avenue, a 2700 square foot home which had been converted into four separate apartments.

Upon arrival, crews found the home fully involved with flames showing from the top of the home.Yarborough said that it took about an hour to knock down the blaze.

All four families were able to escape injury. Yarborough estimated an 80 percent loss of the home.The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
