BRASELTON - A longtime Braselton businessman and government leader died Friday at his home - one day shy of of his 93rd birthday.

Herbert Brown (Kit) Braselton, Sr. was a veteran of World War II who returned home in May 1946 and joined his father's firm, known as Braselton Brothers, as manager of the hardware department. Along with his brother Herman, he was also joint manager of Braselton Improvement Company Hardware and Building Materials (member of the ACE Hardware group) and he was a Director of the Braselton Banking Company.

Because he had a blood relation with two Revolutionary soldiers, Jacob Braselton and Gen. George Washington, Braselton qualified to become a member of Gainesville Lyman Hall Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He served for two years as president of the chapter; President of the state organization, Georgia Sons of the American Revolution; and as a trustee of the national group. One of his most prized joys was being a member of the State Color Guard where he wore a duplicate of Gen. Washington's uniform.

Braselton was elected as Braselton Town Councilman for 33 years and served as Mayor in 1998.

The funeral will be at 3:00 Sunday at Northeast Church of Braselton.
