GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Police now say it was a two-vehicle accident that injured a woman and damaged a store front on Athens Highway late Friday morning.

It happened near Lenox Drive around 11:30 a.m. at a grocery store, Supermercado Los Tres Hermanos.

"An SUV was traveling southbound on 129, crossed the median, crossed the northbound lanes into a parking lot of a grocery store. The vehicle then struck a delivery truck at a high rate of speed," Gainesville Police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said.

Holbrook said the SUV driver, a woman, suffered serious injuries and was flown to Atlanta Medical Center. She was the only one in the vehicle.

The store owner's son, Jesus Carrillo, said if it wasn't for the tortilla delivery truck unloading in front of the store, the SUV would have gone into the building.

"The guy that brings the tortillas, he was in the back unloading. He's the one that got hurt. Everyone in the store was ok," Carrillo said.

Police described the man's injuries as minor.

Carillo estimated there were 15 to 20 people in the store at the time. He was ringing people up when it happened.

"I heard a big boom, and as soon as I looked out the window, it exploded, so it made a huge sound. Fire was everywhere. I saw the lady that was in the car. She was knocked out," Carrillo said.

He got his customers to the back of the store and called 911.

"It was very scary."
