Free named head of NGTC Campus Police

CLARKESVILLE - Tony Free is the new Campus Police Chief at North Georgia Technical College (NGTC). He comes to ngtc with more than 25 years of experience, including positions with the state Department of Corrections, Clayton Police Department, and the Sky Valley Police Department.

"We're very glad to have him on board," said Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Mike King.

Chief Free is a P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified officer and a P.O.S.T. certified instructor with advanced training as a firearms instructor. His many positions in the public safety service include investigatory, Department Captain, Assistant Chief, Chief of Police. He also worked as a mutual aid for the Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force as a SWAT team member.

"There's a broader span of control in the college environment," said Free. "There is more emphasis on overall public safety such as fire and tornado scenarios."

Free is a native of Rabun County where he and his wife, Lynn, live. They have four children and three grandsons.
