CLEVELAND - White County has joined the Coast 2Coast Rx Card program, a nationwide discount prescription card program serving over 300 governmental entities. The White County Board of Commissioners approved the program last September and county officials have been working to get the system set up locally.

The discount cards are available at the Board of Commissioners Office, Health Department, Senior Center, the Library and pharmacies. They will allow all County residents, regardless of income, age, or health status to participate in the program and save on the cost of their medications. This program saved cardholders throughout the nation an average of 60% in 2012 on the cost of prescription drugs.

The Rx card is distributed free of charge and may be used at all pharmacy chains and most independent pharmacies in White County. White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner said, "With healthcare costs on the rise, prescription drug discounts will help ease some of the financial burdens individuals and families are facing at a time when they need it the most."

Besides the discount on prescriptions, the card also provides discounts on dental, vision, veterinary, hearing services, lab and imaging tests and diabetes supplies/equipment for all family members. Residents my print the Rx card and view the nearest participating locations at www.coast2coastrx.com Other counties in the are where the discount cards are available include Banks, Habersham, Jackson and Lumpkin.

Hall County has been participating in a similar program with the National Association of Counties (NACo) for several years.
