Hall schools launching health, wellness competition

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County School System, in conjunction with its Wellness Council, United Healthcare-Activate for Kids; and Walmart in Gainesville and Oakwood, is launching a new health and wellness initiative.

School officials say the "Fit Start" competitions is designed to bring greater focus on health and wellness in Hall County.

Students will compete, either as individuals or as a group, to see who can create the best message to promote wellness in the community. The creation can be a poster, a video (no more than 90 seconds) or an internet APP (application). The idea for the competition is built upon the districts' past success with national and state recognition from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and from the Governor's S.H.A.P.E.

OFFICIAL COMPETITION RULES and PROMOTION PERIOD

The "Fit Star" competition will run from February 15-March 15.
By participating in the competition, each entrant unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which shall be final and binding in all respects.

ELIGIBILITY

This competition is open only to students of the Hall County School District. Therefore, to be eligible, all entrants must be currently enrolled in a system school during the duration of the contest. If students submit an entry as a group, all within the group must attend the same school.

COMPETITION ENTRY

Entrants (whether an individual or a group) must submit an entry in one of the following forms:

1) A Poster (8 ½" x 11" or 11" x 14"). Poster may be on paper or in electronic format.
2) A video (maximum of 90 seconds). Video links may be submitted two ways:
a) A link to a teacher's page on the school's website
b) A link to You Tube (If the entrant is under the age of 13, a parent must create
a You Tube account).
3) A free web App (Suggested site: ibuildapp.com). Please list the link on the
registration form

Theme of Competition: health and wellness awareness for students and/or
employees. Scope of theme includes is to nutrition, exercise, or both.
Examples of potential content themes, include, but are not limited to the following:
1) Nutrition
a) Low Fat Dairy
b) Lean Meats
c) Whole Grains
d) Vegetables and Fruits
e) Healthy Nutritional behavior
a. Eating at the table
b. Making healthy choices at restaurants, vending machines, etc.2) Exercise
a) 60 minutes a day for children
b) Exercise recommendations for adults (if audience is employees)
c) Strength
d) Endurance
e) Flexibility
f) Finding your passion for exercise
g) Role modeling (student to student, employee to student)

Students will be entered into the "Fit Stat" Competition when a registration form is submitted with the entry (poster, video or app) to [email protected] during the

Promotion Period. If poster is in paper format, entry should be sent to Student Services (Attention "Fit Star") via inter-office mail from the participant's school during the Promotion Period. All entrants and individuals included, photographed, recorded or videotaped must have a parent or guardian signature on the registration form.

Limit one (1) entry per participant. Entrants may submit original work completed by the entrant or group of entrants. All entries become the property of the sponsors and will not be returned. By entering, each participant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the sponsor's decisions. Failure to comply with these Official Rules will result in disqualification.

The sponsors' assume no responsibility or liability for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, theft or destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries. In the event a dispute regarding the identity of the person who actually submitted an entry cannot be resolved to sponsors' satisfaction, the disputed entry will be deemed ineligible. The sponsors shall not be responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry information or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of the entries in the "Fit Star" Competition.

WINNER SELECTION

Winners will be selected by a panel of judges determined by the sponsors in the
following categories: K--5th grade and 6--12th grade. All winners will be selected by March 31. The prize winners will be notified through their school.
The rubric for winner selection is as follows:
 Title of Entry 5 points
 Accuracy of Content 25 points
 Clarity of Message/Theme 25 points
 Entry Inspires/Motivates audience to action 25 points
 Quality of Presentation 20 points

PRIZES

Two first place prizes will be awarded, one in each category (K-5
thgrade and 6th-12th grade).

 Each winning entrant's school will receive $175 for wellness activities.
 Each winning entrant's school will receive a plaque.
 Each winning entrant will receive a $100 Walmart gift card.

Note: If the winning entrant is a group, the members of the group will receive a gift card that is equal to the divided shares of the $100 amount.

Honorable Mention: Each honorable mention will receive a certificate and an
opportunity for local and national recognition.
