8-AAAA tournament: Lady War Eagles rout Walnut Grove, advance to state tourney

OAKWOOD -- The Chestatee girls basketball team earned a spot in the upcoming Class AAAA state tournament after routing Walnut Grove 51-26 Monday in the quartefinals of the Region 8-AAAA tournament at Johnson High.

It's the third consecutive season Chestatee has advanced to the state playoffs.

The top-seeded Lady War Eagles (21-5) struggled in the first half leading the eight-seed Lady warriors just 13-1 at halftime. But Chestatee exploded in the third quarter.

Chestatee, led by Region 8-AAAA Co-Player of the Year Maegan Kenimer, outscored Walnut Grove 21-2 in the period to blow the game open. The Lady Warriors never recovered.

Kenimer poured in 20 to lead the Lady War Eagles. Deanna Bradberry had eight points for the Lady war Eagles.

Chestatee will take on Eastside Thursday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals at Johnson.
