Commissioners spent part of their work session Monday hearing from Public Works Director Ken Rearden who, at the request of commissioners, had put together a spread sheet comparing proposals on the project from Hall County, the city of Gainesville and the city of Lula.
That spread sheet compared everything from the cost of a monthly sewer bill to a time schedule for building the needed sewer line to feed the Gateway Industrial Center to how emergency calls would be handled.
After the meeting, Mecum said there is no easy answer to running sewer service to the new industrial park. He said in his mind, there are two basic considerations, however.
"You're looking at it from a short term - what it's going to cost us - and long term-and when you start getting into long term, then you begin looking at it from the standpoint of what is in the best interest of Hall County, as a whole, said Mecum.
The chairman said most residents likely don't realize what is at stake with the sewer project, noting that jobs that are projected for the Gateway Industrial Center are what will fuel the county as a whole.
Mecum said he has heard no comments from any constituents on the project, other than Douglas Aiken, who addressed the board of commissioners at the work session.
Aiken, who is a well-known presence at county meetings, encouraged commissioners to vote for Lula's proposal to run the sewer system to the industrial park.
