One of those involves the widening and reconstruction of a mile of Georgia Highway 20 in Gwinnett and Forsyth counties beginning west of Ruth Lane and extending to east to Riverside Road. The project includes the construction of two bridges over the Chattahoochee River and had an estimated completion day of May 31, 2016.
Another calls for 7.2 miles of widening and reconstruction of Georgia 17 in Franklin and Stephens counties, including the construction of two bridges. It had an estimated completion date of May 31, 2016.
The third involves 10.2 miles resurfacing and shoulder work on Georgia 368 in Elbert County beginning east of Georgia Highway 77 and extending to the South Carolina line. It was due for completion by the end of the year.
According to the GDOT website, bid awards can be deferred for any number of reasons, including budgetary constraints, environmental permitting delays, and making sure the apparent low bidder gets properly pre-qualified.
The Clarks Bridge project is for a new bridge and approaches as well as a pedestrian tunnel under Clarks Bridge Road, connecting the two sides of the Lake Lanier Rowing Center, a 1996 Olympic venue. (See earlier story. Link below.)
