BUFORD -- At least North Hall can say something few Region 7-AAA girls basketball teams have been able to this season against Buford: they had the lead against the powerful Lady Wolves.

Jordan Nix drained a long 3-pointer to give the Lady Trojans an early 3-2 lead. But it wouldn't last long.

The Lady Wolves used a 16-0 run over a five-minute stretch to pull away for an 18-3 lead and then cruised to a 73-40 win Friday night in their home finale.

Nix would bank in another 3-pointer to end the Buford run and then banked in a third 3-pointer with 16 seconds left to pull North Hall within 20-9 at the end of the first quarter.

That's as close as the Lady Trojans would get. Buford opened the second quarter with an 11-2 run to push its lead to 31-11 and North Hall would not get as close 20 the rest of the way as Buford would take a 45-18 halftime lead.

In the third quarter Buford would lead by as many as 43.

The Lady Wolves (19-4, 13-0 Region 7-AAA) were paced by 16 points each from Bree Horrocks and McKenzie Darrah as the dominated inside against the smaller Lady Trojans. Maya Dillard added 11 points for Buford.

Buford next will travel to Fannin County on Saturday in its season finale.

North Hall (14-11, 7-7) was led by 14 points from Nix, including four 3-pointers.

The Lady Trojans are off until Wednesday when they play in the first round of the Region 7-AAA tournament at either Buford or Dawson County.

NOTES: Buford dedicated much of the proceeds of the event to the Devin Durden Scholarship Fund. The concession stand and a raffle as well as a silent auction helped bring in money for the fund, which awards scholarships to students at Buford High and Dade County High schools.
Buford's Bree Horrocks, left, gets a shot off against North Hall on Friday in Buford.
