ATHENS -- Lakeview Academy led for just 1.9 seconds on Thursday night -- but it was the last 1.9 seconds of the contest, as the Lions knocked off Athens Christian 61-60 in Athens.

Austin Montgomery nailed the game-winning free throw with just under two seconds to play to give Lakeview (18-6, 11-2 Region 8-A) it's first and only lead of the night, as the Lions closed out the regular season on a high note, finishing as the No. 1 seed from Region 8-A, North.

Montgomery led Lakeview with a team-high 19 points on Thursday, while Trevor Price added 15. Rick Valentine also scored nine in the win.

Demetrius McWhorter put up a game-high 26 points for Athens Christian, while Will Jackson added 19.

The Lions will begin play in the Region 8-A tournament at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Towns County High School in Hiawassee against an opponent to be determined.
