CLEVELAND - Two people suffered minor injuries Saturday as a result of an early morning fire in Cleveland.

Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt said units were dispatched to 57 White Hall Manor just before 2:30 a.m. Pruitt said upon arrival emergency responders found some of the occupants outside in the 19 degree temperature.

After investigating, Pruitt said they discovered that there was a small fire in one of the apartments and the sprinkler system had been activated, which extinguished the fire. The sprinkler system was still running and flooded the unit and one below.

Pruitt said one of the residents of the apartment had minor burns on his hand and another resident fell on the ice-covered steps while evacuating. Both were evaluated by White County Emergency Medical Service personnel and both declined transport by EMS. Pruitt said the two were taken to the hospital by family members.

The cause of the fire was not released.
