Arbor Day art, essay contest winners announced

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville's annual Arbor Day Celebration is Friday, February 15 at 10 a.m. at the Frances Meadows Center.

The event is open to the public and is sponsored by the Hall County Master Gardeners, Keep Hall Beautiful and Georgia Power. Festivities include student contest recognition and a joint city/county proclamation with Tree City USA recognition.

In the meantime, the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee and the Georgia Forestry Commission Friday announced the winners of the 2013 Arbor Day Student Art and Essay Contest. Winners were from Enota Elementary School. There were more than 100 entries in the art category.

Art contest for third graders
Topic: "I Speak for the Trees"
1st place: Prudence Matthews
Runner Ups: Tennent Slack and Mary Griffin Romberg

Essay contest for fifth graders
1st place: Oscar Salazar
Runner ups: Bella Scarlett and Bailey Morris
