Runner-up was 7th-grader Saloum Ceesay, also a Gainesville Middle School student.
The competition was held Thursday.
That's also when the elementary school spelling bee was held for the city school system. Lance Robinson, a 5th-grader at Centennial Elementary won that competition. Runner-up was Holden Casey, a 4th-grader at Centennial.
The elementary contest went 16 rounds, and the middle school competition lasted ten rounds.
Kimpling will go on to represent GCSS in the District 3 Spelling Bee in Suwanee on February 23. Her winning word was "haughtiness."
Earlier this week, North Hall Middle School student William Usrey won this year's Hall County Spelling Bee. (See earlier story.) He, too, advances to district competition.
