CLEVELAND - The White County Board of Commissioners has approved a work contract and additional funding for the planned event park in Cleveland.

During a called meeting this week, commissioners approved a contract with Charles Black Construction to do the work. At the same time, the board approved some additional funds to complete the funding need for the project.
Commissioner Terry Goodger has spearheaded this project since the beginning and said all the commission's hard work is beginning to payoff.

"It's been a while that we've been working on this to get it together, and I think most of the people in the community are excited about having it and we're ready to get started on it," Goodger said. "Charles Black is ready to start as soon as they get notice to proceed and that could happen any day."

Depending on the weather, officials expect the park to be completed quickly.

"We are looking for having the park ready for the spring," Goodger said.

The board also approved $165,000 in Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds for the project. Other funds used will come from the county's hotel/motel tax, and the City of Cleveland is providing some funding. The total project cost is $860,744.
White County plans to construct an event park behind the courthouse on property bounded by Brook, Underwood, Quillian and East Kytle streets.
