According to state Labor Commissioner Mark Butler, such applications in Gainesville increased by 23.2 percent. Statewide, they were down 28.7 percent compared to November a year ago.
Athens, on the other hand, saw a reduction in UI claims. They were down 46.8 percent. The number in metro Atlanta declined by 25.6 percent.
Butler also reports that Gainesville added 800 more new jobs in November compared to a year ago, a 1.1 percent increase. Athens added 1,200 - a 1.3 percent increase and Atlanta led the state with a 2.5 percent increase. Statewide, the number of new jobs increased 2.3 percent last month over November 2012.
