PEACHTREE CITY - A strong cold front will impact North and Central Georgia this weekend - bringing with it the potential for severe storms heading into Christmas week.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says there is still some uncertainty on the location and timing of any severe weather. However, the current forecast indicates the most likely time will be late Saturday night into Sunday - mainly along and north of the Interstate 85 corridor. Both the timing and location of any inclement weather could change depending on the speed and strength of the weather system, according to forecasters.

In addition to severe weather, locally heavy rainfall is possible, but flooding is not expected. Between 2 and 2.5 inches of rain are possible across northeast portions of the state, with an inch or less expected elsewhere. Winds could gust as high as 20 miles an hour during the storms.

The greatest threat, according to forecasters, is for damaging winds, isolated tornadoes and heavy rain. (See link below.)

As for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, NWS says no chance for a repeat of the rare White Christmas that we had in 2010. Both days are expected to be sunny with highs in the mid 40s. Lows will be in the upper 20s and 30s.
