BUFORD - Six residents of a Buford home escaped injury from an early morning house fire on Old Thompson Mill Road thanks to an alert neighbor.

The Thursday call came around 5:00 a.m. Thursday, according to the Gwinnett County Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the upper level of the house. Fire and heat conditions forced firefighters to do battle from the outside of the home.

Fire officials said the second level of the home was destroyed by fire.

Fire officials said five adults and one child were displaced by the blaze, but did not require Red Cross assistance.

Old Thompson Mill Road runs between Thompson Mill Road and Sardis Church Road.
