PENDERGRASS - The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited Barrette Outdoor Living in Pendergrass for 14 alleged safety and health violations.

According to a news release from OSHA Thursday, the agency proposed $66,550 in penalties for the fence manufacturer.

OSHA officials said they found 12 serious safety and health violations, ranging from failure to provide machine guarding to failure to provide training on hearing protection.

"This inspection identified a wide range of safety and health hazards that need to be eliminated from the workplace to protect workers from serious injury or death," Bill Fulcher, director of OSHA's Atlanta East Area Office said.

Repeated phone calls to the published phone number for the business for comment resulted in a busy signal.

An inspection of the business in Pendergrass began in August, after OSHA received a complaint.

OSHA officials said the company has 15 business days to comply, request a conference with Fulcher or contest the allegations before the independent OSHA Review Commission.
