Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said investigators believe the man crossed the southbound and northbound lanes of the interstate safely, but as he tried to cross the Connector Distributor for I-85 north from Buford Drive, he was hit by a vehicle.
Ritter said they believe they know the man's identity, but they are notifying relatives before releasing his name.
The fatal accident happened around 6:30 a.m.
