The newspaper said Friday that former Humphries Elementary teacher Ingrid Abella-Sly received one year of probation in a plea deal with prosecutors, leaving 32 defendants left in the case alleging educators conspired to change student answers on standardized tests in order to meet academic goals.
The newspaper says Abella-Sly pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor obstruction charge. Under terms of the deal, she will also have to perform 250 hours of community service for students affected by the scandal and repay $500 that she received as a performance bonus.
In a letter to the judge, Abella-Sly said the school system had ``unreasonable expectations that neither I nor the students could meet.''
