Basketball round-up: Chestatee girls hold on for win over Pickens

GAINESVILLE -- The Chestatee girls basketball team held off Pickens 46-42 on Friday night in Gainesville.

The Lady War Eagles (7-1) fell behind 15-8 after the first quarter but fought back and took a 37-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Bridgette Kelly paced Chestatee with 17 points, while Kayla Watson 16 points and Deanna Bradberry 9 points.

Chestatee opens defense of its Lanierland tournament title on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Johnson at Flowery Branch High.

Jay Gaudlock scored 16 points, but the Red Elephants (1-4) fell to the Jaguars on Friday in Athens.

The Red Elephants will take on Lakeview Academy in the first round of the Lanierland tournament on Saturday in Flowery Branch.

FANNIN COUNTY 29


The Spartans rolled to their first Region 7-AAA win of the season on Friday in Blue Ridge.

Hunter Atkinson scored a game-high 12 points to lead the Spartans (4-3, 1-1 Region 7-AAA), while Tyquan Statham added 10.

Austin Williams paced Fannin County with 11 points.

West Hall will begin play in the Lanierland tournament at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against East Hall in Flowery Branch.


PICKENS BOYS 76, 
CHESTATEE 73, OT

The Dragons held on for a road win on Friday in Gainesville.

Ryan Barnes and Hunter Creamer each scored 19 points to pace the War Eagles, while Joey Scheman added 17.
Chestatee missed 18 free throw in the loss.

The War Eagles will take on North Hall at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lanierland tournament at Flowery Branch.


DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 66,
LUMPKIN COUNTY 33


The Lady Tigers took an 18-14 first quarter lead and turned it on the rest of the way for a lopsided win on Friday in Dawsonville.

Sheyenne Seabolt scored a game-high 19 points, while Karlie Bearden had 18 points and Ashley Parker scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds for Dawson County.

The Lady Tigers (6-1) will play host to Pacelli at 6 p.m. Saturday.
