The Homeland Military Relief boxes are sent by Americans Helping Americans for Caring Hands Ministries to distribute.
"Homeland Military Relief boxes are one way of saying thank you for your service we have not forgotten you," Caring Hands Ministries Executive Director Ann Fleming said. "We had boxes a couple of years ago and then the program was discontinued. "The new program is a bit different. The boxes will come every two months and have mainly nonperishable foods so they are useful to people who don't have a freezer. The other boxes were mainly frozen food."
To qualify to receive a Homeland Military Relief food box, you must be a veteran or be serving on active duty in the US military. Eligibility is based on need. There are a limited number of boxes available at each distribution and once signed up the person or family will receive a box each time as long as the program lasts or until their situation changes so that they no longer need help. Fleming said some people have asked if the boxes could go to widows of veterans.
Anyone who wants more information about this program or knows someone who can benefit from it can contact [email protected] or call 706-219-1980. Box recipients will need to be able to show their name, address or where they usually stay, dates and branch of service, whether any service was outside the U.S. A copy of DD214 while helpful is not strictly required.
They will also need to provide an email, phone number or contact person so they can be informed when the boxes come in as it may not be the same date each time. Someone who is homeless or stays in different places at different times is definitely eligible as long as there is a way they and Caring Hands Ministries can contact each other and they remain in this general area.
The ministry serves people in Dawson, Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin and White Counties. For this program someone who is qualified and stays near one of these counties may also be eligible.
