Johnson High athletic director Matt Stowers announced on Friday that the Knights will continue to play a non-region schedule in football for the next two year-cycle of the GHSA schedule.

Stowers made the announcement at a Region 8-AAAA meeting.

"We -- principal Stan Lewis, coach Jason Roquemore, and I -- feel that playing a non-region schedule is what is best for our students, our football program, and our community based on many factors," Stowers said. "At the end of this two year cycle we will reevaluate."

The Knights -- who opted for a non-region schedule beginning in 2012 -- went 2-8 this past season after going 6-4 in 2012. Johnson was 0-10 in its last season of region football, 2011.
