The Lumpkin County boys basketball team overcame a slow start to pull away from Union County 50-38 on Tuesday.

The Indians (5-1) trailed 27-15 at the half but held the Panthers (3-2) to just 11 points the rest of the way.

Daniel McCrary and Austin Holman each scored 13 to lead Lumpkin County, while Johnny Gilreath added 10.

Union County was led by Hunter Hughes' 11 points, while Dylan Coyne added 8.

Lumpkin County went 0-12 from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half and shot 22 percent from the field to fall behind. Yet Gilreath hit a 3-pointer with a minute to go in the third quarter, and Jack Howard hit a 28-footer at the third quarter buzzer to cut the Union lead to 35-29. The fourth quarter was all Lumpkin, led by McCrary's 9 points and Evan Bafile's 7.

Lumpkin County travels to face Dawson County on Friday.
