"We've built a miniature Flowery Branch, downtown Main Street," Ching said. "We want to really show the passerby its something to be proud of."
Ching says she built the little table top town to promote town pride and celebrate the Christmas season and expects it will be gobbled up right down to the last tiny fire hydrant after the first of the year. In fact, all of the buildings and stores along Main Street are recreated, including the Liberty Candy Store building.
"Everybody sees it," she added. "When the kids hear its completely edible they want to dive in and some of the parents too. I have a date with a twin boy and girl January 2nd to tear it apart and see if its still good and eat it, but its mostly for people to look at and enjoy."
According to Ching, it took no small amount of micro-engineering and a lot of icing to glue it all together. The 'building materials' consisted of graham crackers, candy, including gum drops, chocolate, gummy berries, gum drops, marshmallows, and licorice. Ching got assistance from store employee Sinead Stampfli.
"We're very proud of the shopkeepers here and we wanted them to have something to be proud of too, not just for our customers, but for everybody down the street," Ching said. "They're taking pictures of it and putting it on their blogs, they're very proud of it too."
