Death of toddler believed to be accident

WINDER - While Barrow County authorities continued to investigate, they said preliminary evidence indicated the death of a 14-month-old boy Wednesday afternoon was a tragic accident.

According to Barrow County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Guthas, the boy was run over by a vehicle in a driveway on Bowman Terrace in Winder.

Authorities said his mother was dropping him off at his grandmother's residence around noon. The toddler got behind the vehicle as his mother was preparing to leave and was hit and killed according to Guthas.

"At this time, the evidence indicates this tragic incident was an accident," a news release from the sheriff's office states.

Guthas said the investigation was ongoing.
