According to banks County Deputy Carissa McFaddin, sheriff's officers responded to a home at 219 Westmoreland Road, Lula, about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday regarding a domestic dispute. In addition, a male there was making suicidal threats.
McFaddin said the male was armed with a shotgun and made threats to harm not only himself but also responding law enforcement personnel when they arrived.
"Through joint efforts and combined tactical planning of Banks County Sheriff's Office, Banks County Fire and EMS, and Banks County E-9-1-1, Daniel Brent Lewallen, 30, was taken into custody without further incident and the firearm was secured by law enforcement personnel at approximately 4:45 a.m.," McFaddin said.
Lewallen initially was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and second-degree criminal damage to property. Additional charges are pending.
"Lewallen does have an extensive violent history which includes multiple aggravated assaults, cruelty to children in the first degree, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, and additional family violence charges," McFaddin said.
McFaddin said personnel did a good job averting a bad situation.
"We are very proud of our public safety personnel for the swift and strategic response to the situation presented," McFaddin said. "This incident could have easily turned treacherous, but through combined training and calculated thinking, we were successful in preventing any type of added threat from occurring."
