Those crimes, on Nov. 20 and 22, involved reported sexual and physical assaults.
Following last week's arrests in Cornelia of three men Athens-Clarke officials have stopped short of saying are connected to the crimes, ACCPD Assistant Chief Fred Stephens prepared a statement.
"Investigators continue to rigorously pursue leads, examine evidence, and conduct interviews in hopes to identify the persons involved in these two separate crimes," the release states. "We continue to receive
calls from our courageous citizens who believe they recognize the person in the sketch or have information that can help investigators."
After receiving a tip last week from someone who said she recognized a man in an Athens-Clarke composite sketch, the Habersham County SWAT Team was activated to make contact with three men in a Cornelia hotel room. Those men were arrested on drug and other charges, and Cornelia Police Chief Rick Darby said one of the men was considered a person of interest in the Athens-Clarke County crimes.
While Athens-Clarke and GBI officials have interviewed the men, who remain incarcerated at the Habersham County Detention Center in Clarkesville, they have not announced a direct link to the crimes there.
"If you have seen something, say something," Stephens' statement reads. "We continue to encourage citizens to call with information no matter how insignificant it may seem to them. All information is very important to us and police believe that someone has that critical clue to identify the perpetrators and bring this case to a successful conclusion. Police would like to speak with anyone who may live around or have visited the Highland Park Drive area around 3 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, or Cole Manor Drive around 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22."

"Your police department and the GBI continue to devote significant resources toward these crimes," the statement reads. "We are committed to following all leads to a logical conclusion and will act responsibly with all information that we receive to ensure sensitivity, solvability, and future successful prosecution."
