How dry was it?

PEACHTREE CITY - Did you or someone you know have difficulty breathing, have a sore throat or nasal passages Friday?

If so, the culprit might not have been a "bug" you picked up at a Thanksgiving gathering or while Black Friday shopping.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says the outdoor humidity in some places in North Georgia, including Gainesville, dropped to 10-15 percent Friday afternoon (15 percent at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville), and that could have been the reason for an increase in such health-related symptoms.

NWS experts say if you don't own a humidifier, the indoor humidity was even lower. For instance, the dew point temperature (a measure of the amount of moisture in the air) in Peachtree City at 4:00 Friday afternoon was seven degrees. If you heat that air up to 70 degrees, the relative humidity drops to eight percent.
