The university will hold four commencement ceremonies on Dec. 14-15.
The first will be on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. on UNG's Gainesville Campus, and will honor graduates of the College of Arts & Letters and the College of Science & Mathematics. Hemmer, who also is a former Hall County commissioner, will speak. Hemmer is a sculptor and forensic artist in Gainesville and Atlanta. She previously served on the boards of trustees for Gainesville State College and North Georgia College & State University, the two institutions that consolidated in January to become UNG.
The second ceremony, also on Saturday, Dec. 14 on UNG's Gainesville Campus, will be at 3 p.m. This ceremony will honor graduates of the Mike Cottrell College of Business, the College of Education, and the College of Health Sciences & Professions. McCoy will speak at this ceremony. McCoy graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., and served as a research analyst for North Carolina's largest law firm, Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice. He also previously served as vice president of public policy and communications for the Greater Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce in North Carolina.
The third ceremony will take place on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. on UNG's Dahlonega Campus, and will honor graduates of the College of Arts & Letters and the College of Science & Mathematics. Collins, who represents Georgia's 9th District, will speak at this ceremony. Collins grew up in Hall County and earned a degree in political science and criminal justice in 1988 from then-North Georgia College. He has served as a chaplain in the Air Force Reserve since 2002, and was elected to represent District 27 in the Georgia House of Representatives in 2006.
The final ceremony, also on Sunday, Dec. 15 on UNG's Dahlonega Campus, will be at 5 p.m. This ceremony will honor graduates of the Mike Cottrell College of Business, the College of Education, and the College of Health Sciences & Professions. McCoy also will speak at this ceremony.
Separate commissioning ceremonies will be held on Dec. 15 beginning at 9 a.m. for members of the Corps of Cadets entering the armed forces as second lieutenants. The individual commissioning ceremonies will be held in the atrium of the Brooks Pennington Jr. Military Leadership Center. A reception for commissioning cadets will be held immediately after each ceremony.
