Basketball round-up: JHS boys win; Vikings reach title game

OAKWOOD -- The Johnson boys defeated North Cobb 61-51 on Tuesday in the Johnson Tipoff Classic to go 2-0 in the tournament.

After scoring 101 points on Monday, the Knights opted for a slower, defensive game against North Cobb, jumping to an 18-7 first quarter lead -- Johnson led by double-digits the rest of the way.

Five Knights registered eight points or more, led by James Hodges' double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Jones added 11. Ty Cockfield scored nine, and Carter Cagle scored eight. Drew Dunham also dropped in eight points, 10 assists, and five rebounds.

North Cobb was led by Micah Woodard and Darius Jones, each with 16 points.

Johnson (2-2) plays again at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Athens Christian, a 2013 Class A semifinalist.


CLARKE CENTRAL BOYS 54,
GAINESVILLE 52


Ithello Cross scored 14 to lead the Red Elephants in the loss, while Sam Wright added nine points and Sam Carpenter and JJ Hector each scored eight.

Gainesville will travel to face Apalachee on Dec. 3.


MORGAN COUNTY GIRLS 54,
BUFORD 51, OT


The Lady Wolves opened the season with a hardfought defeat on Tuesday in Madison.

Camile Anderson and Corey Staples each scored 15 points to pace Buford (0-1), while Bree Horrocks added 11 in the loss.

Buford will look to bounce back at 4 p.m. Saturday against Eagles Landing in Buford.


CHESTATEE GIRLS 53,
JEFFERSON 39


The Lady War Eagles (2-0) held the Lady Dragons to just four first quarter points en route to the victory on Tuesday.

Kayla Watson scored 18 points to pace Chestatee, while Bridgette Kelly added 11 in the win. Savanna Long also chipped win with 11, while Deanna Bradberry managed eight.

Chestatee plays again on Saturday against Mill Creek at 7 p.m. at Jefferson High.


DAWSON COUNTY BOYS 52,
SOCIAL CIRCLE 32


The Tigers (3-0) allowed just one point in the first quarter en route to the victory on Tuesday Tuesday in the Walnut Grove Thanksgiving Tournament.

Lucas Pain scored a game-high 21 points, while Cameron Millholland added 11 in the victory.

Tim Head paced Social Circle with 13 points.

Dawson County begins Region 7-AAA play on Dec. 3 against Fannin County in Dawsonville at 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Tigers (3-0) dominated from start to finish on Tuesday in the Walnut Grove Thanksgiving Tournament.

Sheyenne Seabolt scored 19 points to pace Dawson County, while Ashley Parker had 13.

The Lady Tigers begin Region 7-AAA play on Dec. 3 against Fannin County in Dawsonville.


WHITE COUNTY BOYS 93,
MONROE AREA 72


Spencer Adams lit up the Purple Hurricanes for a game-high 23 points on Tuesday in the White County Tip Off Classic in Cleveland.

Bradley Hurst also scored 17, while Will Gearing added 15 for the home-standing Warriors. Trey Thomas also chipped in with 14 and Jordan Egerton 11.

Ken Almond led Monroe Area with 22 points.


LUMPKIN COUNTY BOYS 73,
TELICO 61


The Indians jumped on Telico with 22 first quarter points on Tuesday and held on for the victory in the Glenda Gooch Classic in Blairsville.

Johnathan Gilreath scored a game-high 20 points to lead Lumpkin County to the victory, while Austin Holman added 15 and Daniel McCrary 12. Evan Bafile also chipped in with 10.

Devin Collier scored 14 to pace Telico.


WHITE COUNTY GIRLS 64,
HART COUNTY 40


The Lady Warriors moved to 2-0 on the season Tuesday thanks to the win in the White County Tip Off Classic in Cleveland.

Senior Kaitlin Wilson paced White County in the win with 16 points and six assists, while Jordan Taylor and Eliza Harris each added 12 points. Hannah Wall also scored nine.

Damia Montgomery led Hart County with 10 points.

White County plays at Pickens on Dec. 6.


NORTH FORSYTH GIRLS 33,
CREEKVIEW 25


The Lady Raiders held the Lady Grizzlies to just 14 points over the final three quarters in rallying for the win on Tuesday in Coal Mountain.

North Forsyth (5-0) trailed Creekview 11-7 after the first quarter but used a 13-6 second quarter to grab a 20-17 halftime lead. North Forsyth extended its lead to 30-20 with a 10-3 run in the third quarter and then held on for the victory.

Lochlain Corliss paced North Forsyth with 11 points and four assists. Caroline Bowns added eight points and five blocks, Avery Scarbrough had six points and 10 rebounds, and Sydney Pefanis had six points for the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Raiders will open their Region 6-AAAAAA schedule on the road against Chattahoochee on Dec. 3.

EAST HALL BOYS 73,
RABUN COUNTY 60


Kyvon Davenport dominated with 25 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks to help lead the Vikings into the tournament championship in the Piedmont Classic on Monday in Demorest.

Caleb Holtzclaw also scored 14, while Tristan Cooper added 12 and Jacquen Hopkins 10 in the win.

East Hall led the Wildcats 35-27 at the half.
