Most of north Georgia remains under a flood watch through Wednesday morning (see separate posting) and the National Weather Service says snow accumulations are possible in the north Georgia mountains Wednesday morning. In Blairsville, for instance, forecasters say new snow accumulation of less than a half-inch is possible.
Forecasters said rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches were expected in that part of the state by Wednesday morning, with higher amounts possible. By late morning, rainfall at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport totaled two-thirds of an inch. The temperature was 37 with a wind chill of 26.
The weather service is projecting a chance of rain and snow as far south as metro Atlanta Wednesday morning, but little or no snow accumulation is expected outside the highest elevations of the state.
The forecast for Gainesville for Wednesday calls for a chance of snow showers in the morning with a high of 38 and a low Wednesday night of 24. Thanksgiving Day should be sunny with a high of 43 and a low of 28 and the rest of the holiday weekend also looks "rain free' with highs warming into the 40s and 50s with lows in the 30s and 40s.
