GAINESVILLE - With Thanksgiving upon us, the Gainesville Police Department reminds motorists to travel at a safe speed, always wear seatbelts, utilize child safety seats and always use a designated driver when attending an event where alcoholic beverages may be consumed.

The police department along with agencies across the country are in the midst of the annual Thanksgiving Click It or Ticket campaign.

Click It or Ticket, which continues through Dec. 1, seeks to reduce the number of injured occupants during traffic accidents by encouraging seat belt use, which is required by Georgia law, anyway, and ticketing people who are not using seat belts.

The department also is issuing a reminder that it checks child safety seats for recalls, proper installation and fit for a child on Tuesdays from 9:00-11:00 at the Gainesville Justice Center on Queen City Parkway.
