Basketball round-up: West Hall teams open 1-0, Dawson sweeps, Lions win

JEFFERSON -- The West Hall boys basketball team opened the season with a 53-48 defeat of Jackson County on Friday in Jefferson.

Mason Gaines sunk five 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 18 points for the Spartans (1-0), while Hunter Atkinson added 16.

West Hall pulled ahead 24-17 at the half and made it 38-24 heading into the final eight minutes.

Dylan McDonald, Jacob Lewis and Nathan Robards each scored eight points for the Panthers.

West Hall will travel to Cleveland on Monday to take on Monroe Area at 5:30 p.m. in the White County Shoot-Out tournament.

Jensen Hall lit up the Lady Panthers on Friday in Jefferson, draining seven 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 22 points for the Lady Spartans (1-0).

Macy Passmore added 11 points in the win, while Maia Booker scored 10 and pulled down 13 rebounds. Mia McKensey also scored six and added 10 rebounds.

Shelton Kendrix paced Jackson County with 21 points, while Mason Garland added 10.

West Hall jumped ahead 19-6 after the first quarter, though Jackson County pulled within 25-19 at the half. The Lady Spartans outscored the Lady Panthers 31-23 the rest of the way, however.

West Hall will take on Hart County at 4 p.m. Monday in the White County Shoot-Out in Cleveland.

Senior JB Britte hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left to lift the Lions (1-0) to the win. Britte finished with 13 points, all in the second half. Lakeview freshman Tre Gober led all scorers with 16 points, and fellow freshman Josh Randolph added 10.

Addison Owen had 11 to lead Paideia (2-2). Jordan Hollins and Jonathan Garrett added nine points apiece.

Lakeview plays host to W.D. Mohammed at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Gainesville.

Hannah Grogan and Schyler Miller each scored eight points to lead the Lady Lions (0-1), who fell behind 16-7 after the first quarter and trailed 28-15 at the half.

Levi Whitmire led the way with 15 points, as the Tigers (2-0) overwhelmed Pinecrest early, taking a 21-9 first quarter lead.

Cameron Millholland added 13 points, while Lucas Pain scored 12 and Sam Muenchen chipped in with 11 for Dawson County.

The Tigers will play again next week in the Walnut Grove Thanksgiving tournament.

The Lady Tigers (2-0) dominated, as Ashley Parker scored 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Sheyenne Seabolt also scored 16 points, and Karlie Bearden added 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Pinecrest took a 2-0 lead, but the Lady Tigers' pressure defense pushed Dawson in front 4-2 and it never trailed again, pulling ahead 22-13 after the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers play Social Circle on Tuesday in the Walnut Grove Thanksgiving tournament.
