GAINESVILLE - Drug agents arrested two men in Gainesville after a 16-pound package of marijuana bound for Hall County was intercepted in California.

Lt. Scott Ware with Hall County's Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad said the pot was being shipped via UPS to a Gainesville address. California drug agents, while executing a search warrant, found the package. Those agents sent the marijuana to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which in turn, handed it over to local agents.

Ware said undercover agents went to the house on Stephens Road to deliver the drugs.

"We did what's called a controlled delivery," said Ware. "Once the package was signed for, we executed the search warrant, recovered the package and made the arrest."

Christian Olivas, 20, was the man who signed for the package, according to Ware. He said a second man, Fernando Bacerra, arrived at the house to take possession of the package, and then he was arrested.

"Both of those individuals were charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, use of a communications device to facilitate a drug transaction and felony possession of marijuana," said Ware.

Ware said agents also searched Bacerra's home on Lakeshore Drive in Gainesville and found an additional two pounds of marijuana at the scene.

Ware said the combined street value of the pot was estimated at $36,000.

Both Olivas and Bacerra were booked into the Hall County Jail.
