Steve Rose, of the Sandy Springs police department said 22 students began complaining of eye irritation, which prompted an investigation by police and fire officials.
Fulton County Schools spokeswoman Susan Hill told WXIA-TV the students were in the school's computer lab when they said their eyes began to hurt.
Sandy Springs Fire Chief Jack McElfish said three students were taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
According to Rose, fire officials determined the source of the students' eye irritation was calcium carbonate, also known as chalk dust. Officials don't know how the dust caused the problems in the classroom. It was the only room where the students were affected.
Rose said the scene was cleared around 2:30 p.m.
