ATLANTA (AP) Union officials and economists say simultaneous construction of two metro Atlanta stadiums will bolster the local construction industry, which was hobbled during the recession.

Ken Simonson, chief economist of the Associated General Contractors of America, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/1dJsMuj ) that $1 billion in non-residential construction typically translates to about 28,500 jobs, and about a third of them are in the construction field.

With the Atlanta Falcons planning to build a new $1 billion stadium and the Atlanta Braves looking to build a $672 million stadium in Cobb County, CEO of the Associated General Contractors of America Mike Dunham says the projects will have a substantial impact on the region's construction industry.

Dunham warns that sudden demand could put pressure on a relatively small workforce and lead to higher costs.
